Despite a much publicised reputation for hedonism, Ibiza actually has a lot more to its bow than just partying. An island blessed with beautiful countryside, picturesque beaches and a wealth of activities that invite you to make the most of the great outdoors, it can be the ideal spot for a break away with the family, providing respite for parents and oodles of entertainment for kids.
We pride ourselves on being a family-friendly resort, and cater in to families throughout every element of the resort, from our all-ages pool (plus an adults-only pool for when mum and dad need a rest) and super cool Kids’ Club to the specially designed children’s menus in each of our restaurants. We also know that kids get cabin fever on holiday, so we’re here to help with recommendations for those days when they’re begging you to get out and explore the island.
Let’s start with water-based activities, because as every parent knows, most kids are like balls shot out of cannons in the presence of the beach – the sooner you can get there the better. Cala Llonga on the island’s east coast is a great pit stop, not least because the clear, shallow waters are fabulous for splashing around in but also because the beach is backed by family friendly restaurants (think Tex-Mex and fish and chips) and a dedicated playground. For the older ones there’s a range of watersports available on the seafront, or head to the west coast where OceanMania – an enormous floating fun park – in San Antonio Bay leaves kids with smiles plastered on their faces for days.
For more organic adventures, try a beach like Portinatx in the north. A small resort town with three separate small beaches and endlessly shallow waters, it also has a lighthouse and some little caves which are ideal for stoking imaginations. Ibiza is also home to seven, centuries-old pirate towers. Dotted around the island’s coastline, they’re well worth an up-close inspection, if not for the history lesson then at least for the potential Jack Sparrow references.
For instant holiday bonus points there has to be a visit to a water park on any sojourn to the Med. Aguamar in Playa d’en Bossa with its Kamikaze water chute and Black Hole slide is an old school favourite. There’s also Sirenis Aquagames near Port des Torrent on the west of the island, which has a great selection of water slides, sprinklers, and splash barrels – the most alluring (to kids) of which is a 12-metre high tower with a racing slide. Best not to look if you’re a squeamish parent. Surf Lounge Ibiza in San Antonio is another fun-filled way to spend a few hours, particularly if the adults put a wager on who will manage to stand up first.
Back on dry land and still adventures await. Encourage the kids to get to know Ibiza’s natural beauty on horseback with Ibiza Horse Valley. Setting off from the sleepy village of San Juan, these tours through jaw-dropping mountain and forest in Ibiza’s north are led by expert guides and rescue horses, who have been given the opportunity to finally roam free. There’s also Acrobosc in S’Argamassa, an outdoor activity park that includes zip lines, climbing walls, nets suspended between trees and trampolines. There are three different courses for different age groups and it takes around two hours to complete each one.
For evening activities, Cala Llonga hosts an open-air cinema for little ones once a month – completely free of charge. Pack a picnic and enjoy the early night on the sand around like-minded, Ibiza loving families – new friends guaranteed.
On those days when you simply want to lounge by the Ibiza Bay pool, soaking up the sun and having drinks delivered to your sunbed, our Kids’ Club can whisk the little ones off for an entire day and keep them busy with an innovative program of activities. From pizza workshops and shell art to mandala making and pirates and mermaids parties, plus Ibiza-inspired activities like Posidonia parties, Flower Power events, DJ workshops and more, no two days are ever the same – in fact, we find most kids are begging their parents to return after day one, making your holiday at Ibiza Bay even easier and more relaxing than you could have dreamed of.
